Ken Hutchinson's Article on Building a PC Port Adapter
for the AS-GT or NexStar SE and SLT Mounts

The AS-GT mount includes a port for connecting the hand control and a port for connecting an autoguider.  The NexStar SE and SLT mounts include a port for the hand control and an "Aux" port.  In order to upgrade the firmware in the mount, you need a "PC Port".  A PC Port can also be used with NexRemote to completely replace the physical hand control.  For more on the ports on the mount, see Odds and Ends for your scope.  For more upgrading firmware, read here

One way to get this port is to purchase Celestron's Auxiliary Port Accessory Kit (part number 93965).  This device provides additional ports (useful for example to connect the GPS module) but some consider it unnecessary and expensive if they only want to upgrade the firmware.  Ken Hutchinson has put together a document on building a PC Port adapter that connects to the hand control or Aux ports and provides just the PC Port.  Click here for the document in Adobe Acrobat format - visit www.adobe.com if you need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Thanks Ken!
